Budget Planning

At Queen’s, the budget process is designed to support the university’s vision as the research-intensive university with a transformative student learning experience, while also ensuring financial sustainability. The activity-based budget model provides a transparent budget process that closely aligns the allocation of resources with the university’s strategic priorities. It also gives units incentives to grow revenues and reduce costs, so the university is more resilient in difficult economic times.

The Role of the Provost

The Provost's Advisory Committee on Budget is responsible for providing advice on resource allocation and budget development decisions to the provost and vice-principal (academic). The provost is then ultimately responsible for overseeing and developing the university's budget, which is subject to approval by the Board of Trustees. To learn more about each annual budget, please view the yearly Budget Communications and Reports.
