About this Event

The WE-CAN Project at Queen’s University is thrilled to kick off a new OvercomeHER Workshop Series aimed at celebrating women entrepreneurs thriving with disabilities in the greater Kingston region (and beyond).

Our first workshop, entitled “Going in Blind: Entrepreneurs Losing Sight, Gaining Vision”, will be presented by Sarina Cormier and Natalie Minnema, co-founders of Two Canes Consulting in eastern Ontario.

Join Sarina and Natalie, who are legally blind and deafblind, respectively. They’ll share their stories of adaptation and relearning, both in life and in starting an accessibility consulting firm, Two Canes Consulting. They will also offer tips on how to make your business more accessible and inclusive.

We will also be unveiling a special announcement at this inaugural OvercomeHER workshop. Hint: It’s about a new program designed especially for women entrepreneurs thriving with disabilities in the greater Kingston region. Don’t miss it!

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a woman entrepreneur with a hearing impairment who requires a sign language interpreter for this online event, please contact WE-CAN Project Manager Kerry Ramsay at kerry.ramsay@queensu.ca.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

Sarina Cormier and Natalie Minnema are the co-founders of Two Canes Consulting in eastern Ontario. The two met through their local CNIB. As two young women working within the same hospital and living with the same rare eye disease – Retinitis Pigmentosa – the two quickly connected. Both share a positive outlook and openness surrounding their experiences with vision loss.

After meeting on what could only be described as a true “blind date”, the two quickly realized they shared a passion for creating a more accessible world. Today, their combined education and expertise allows them to do just that through their business, Two Canes Consulting.

ABOUT THE WE-CAN PROJECT:

The WE-CAN Project is led by Queen’s University and supported by the Government of Canada. Its mission is to inspire and empower existing and aspiring women entrepreneurs by providing them with tools, resources, expert mentors, networks and community building to expand existing businesses and to launch new ventures.

The Government of Canada, through FedDev Ontario’s Women Entrepreneurship Strategy (WES) Ecosystem Fund is providing $3.2 million for Queen’s University to design and deliver programs and services to accelerate, train, mentor and provide resources to women entrepreneurs and women-led companies in the community.

The focus of the WES strategy is to provide support to women entrepreneurs from diverse and underrepresented groups.
