Computing Orientation

Computing Orientation Week is for all incoming students enrolled in the School of Computing (this includes Computing and the Creative Arts and Computing and Mathematics). This four day action-packed orientation will prepare students for the challenges of University and acquaint them with their peers - and set them up for a successful first year at Queen's!

During our week, Students will be led by our student leaders (TECHs) across campus to participate in numerous awesome activities. We're been known for our legendary CompSci Cup and the Wolfe Island Corn Maze to name a few, however we've added some new events this year too.

A Few Facts about Computing Orientation:

  • Our faculty Orientation Week will run from September 6th - 9th, 2017. There will be a variety of activities offered every day. Even though we encourage you to come out to all of the events, they are all completely optional.
  • During the week, you will be guided by a set of Orientation Leaders known as TECHs. These are upper-year Computing students who are all trained and dedicated to leading Orientation Week activities, answering your questions, and acting as general supports through Orientation Week and beyond.
  • Our week is organized by a group called the Tech Committee. There are nine members of this committee this year. They all oversee the planning of the week, the TECHs, and they ensure that the week runs as smoothly as it possibly can.
  • Our fancy new website, www.qcomputingorientation.ca, will be a resource for you throughout the summer, and the amount of information will continue to grow.
  • There is a fee for Orientation Week, which varies from faculty to faculty. Please note if there are any concerns regarding the Orientation Week fee, bursaries are available. Information on the bursary process will be made available as a part of your registration process.

NOTE: If you wish to participate in the Computing Orientation Week, do not register for the Arts and Science Orientation Week! Our week has a separate fee and we still have the opportunity to participate in a number of different events from the general Arts and Science students.

We strive to make our Orientation Week as inclusive and accessible as possible; we want all new students in Computing to be able to enjoy our Orientation Week to the fullest! Not only is this an unforgettable experience that happens once in a lifetime, but it's a great way to meet your classmates before class starts. We can't wait to see you there!
