Make an Alternative Payment Arrangement (APA) request

The Alternative Payment Arrangement Program (APA) assists students who cannot meet their tuition and student assistance levy (SAL) fee payment deadlines, but have a proven source of funding. The APA allows students, upon approval, to defer payment of their tuition and SAL without penalty. If you need an APA for both terms, you can submit your APA request for both terms at the same time in August.

Pay your Fall Tuition and Student Assistance Levy

Your fall tuition and the Student Assistance Levy, as shown on your Account Summary in SOLUS, will need to be paid before September 1. The balance of fall fees (student activity fees, fall residence fees, UHIP) is due on September 30.

Focus on your health when packing

Packing? Be sure you have your original health card, a copy of your immunization record, and any relevant insurance documents in a safe place to bring to Queen’s. This is a good time to visit your health care professional and review your immunizations.

Students are encouraged to bring sufficient prescription medication to last at least 30 days into the school year. Student Wellness Services (SWS) family doctors can renew prescriptions as the year goes on, but you should book an appointment at least two weeks ahead of your last dose.

Connect with Hospitality Services

If you have any food allergies or dietary concerns, email or call Hospitality Services to setup a meeting with our Campus Executive Chef and Registered Dietitian. They will help make sure that your campus dining experience is both a safe and enjoyable one.

Apply for academic accommodations

If you have a disability (i.e., learning disorder, ADHD, ASD, mental illness, physical disability, etc.) and are able to demonstrate functional limitations that affect your academic functioning, you are eligible to receive accommodations. Once you have documentation and have enrolled in courses, you can register with Queen's Student Accessibility Services (QSAS). They will then contact you to book a personal, confidential advising appointment to discuss your needs and develop an accommodation plan.

Update your banking information on SOLUS

Do we have your banking information? You can update your information in the Finances section of SOLUS. Your banking information permits Queen’s to process refunds directly into your bank account. Please note that Queen’s will not deduct payments directly from your bank account, and any awards will be deposited to your student account, not your bank account.

For those who are coming to Canada for the first time, you will have the opportunity to open a Canadian bank account and update your information upon arrival in Canada.

As soon as possible

Apply for transfer credit

If you have taken courses during high school that may be eligible for transfer credit, you must apply for credit no later than the end of fall term of your first year. Programs with courses that may be eligible for transfer credit include Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, French Baccalaureate, CEGEP, and General Certificate of Education (GCE)/A Levels.

Your transfer credit(s) will be posted on SOLUS approximately 10 business days after we receive your official results.

As soon as possible, and before the end of fall term

Ensure you have valid Canadian provincial/territorial health insurance

International Students: All international students will be automatically charged for single coverage in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP), a mandatory health plan. Students will receive a message in their Queen’s e-mail accounts between August 10th and 17th which will give immediate and direct access to the UHIP portal. Through this portal, proof of coverage can be obtained and printed, dependents can be added, and opt-outs can be initiated (where eligible, and within the first 45 days only).

Returning Canadians: Canadian citizens that have not been living in Canada must register in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) until their Canadian provincial/territorial health insurance comes into effect. This must be done within your first 30 days in Canada. UHIP is a primary insurance plan that provides basic medical coverage for most doctor and hospital services in Ontario.
