Syrian leader's days are numbered
Queen’s University Middle East expert Houchang Hassan-Yari is available to talk about the mounting international pressure against Syria.
Dr. Hassan-Yari, a fellow in the Centre for International and Defence Policy at Queen’s, feels that the pressure against Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has become so great that the only question is when and how the dictator will lose power.
“The pressure coming from the Arab League is absolutely significant. The UN Security Council got involved in Libya only after the Arab League denounced Gadhafi. And now you have Turkey calling for the international community to do something. It seems like the Free Syrian Army is on the offensive and their influence is growing. If you put all of those together, there is no other choice -- Bashar al-Assad is going to go. The only question is how is he going to leave?” says Dr. Hassan-Yari.
Please note Dr. Hassan-Yari will not be available between 1:30 and 4 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 17.
