Supreme Court agrees to hear end-of-life case: Queen's University expert
Queen’s University School of Medicine professor Daren Heyland is available to talk about the Supreme Court agreeing to hear a case involving life-support for comatose patient. The case pits the wishes of a family of a man in a coma against the medical advice of his doctors.
Dr. Heyland has done extensive research of end-of-life care issues and has promoted the importance of getting families to talk about end-of-life decisions to reduce the extremely stressful situation of when patients are usually too sick to speak for themselves. He is also the head of CARENET (Canadian Researchers at the End of Life Network), a group of health care professionals from across the country who collaborate with each other to understand and improve palliative and end-of-life care.
