Semantics and logic expert - same-sex marriage
2010-03-19
Using her expertise in semantics and logic, philosophy and linguistics professor Adele Mercier acted as an expert witness in favour of the petitioners in EGALE v. Canada (2001) and in Halpern v. Canada (2001). She analyzed for the Courts the meaning of the word 'marriage' in contemporary Canada. As the campaign for same-sex marriage legislation wraps up and reason prevails, Dr. Mercier can provide informed commentary on the key role philosophy and linguistics have continued to play.
