Selecting a House of Commons speaker

Queen’s University political studies professor emeritus Ned Franks is available to talk about the selection of a speaker for the House of Commons.

Dr. Franks, one of Canada’s leading scholars on Parliamentary issues, can talk about the important role of the speaker and some of the issues the next speaker may face. Dr. Franks feels the previous speaker, Peter Milliken, did a great job.

“The next speaker has big shoes to fill and will not be as well prepared for the job as Peter Milliken,” says Dr. Franks, who taught Mr. Milliken when the ex-speaker was a student at Queen’s.
