Communicating health risks to a scared public
Dr. William Leiss of Queen’s School of Policy Studies is one of two risk communications experts in Canada. He can talk about what is involved in communicating effectively about health risks, particularly during times of heightened public fears. The way the public perceives a risk often has more to do with the means of communication and credibility of the communicator than the actual substance of the risk, he says.
