President Obama visits Myanmar: Queen's University expert

Queen’s University American politics expert Brandon Tozzo is available to comment President Barack Obama historic visit to Myanmar (formally Burma). It is the first time a U.S. president has visited the country.

“President Obama's first visit to Myanmar marks an important step in the country's transition to a democracy,” says Mr. Tozzo, a teaching fellow at Queen’s. “In recent years, Myanmar’s military leaders have been slowing relaxing their grip on power. While the country still has a long way to go, the president remarked on the significant steps towards protecting human rights in a regime that was once sanctioned for its abuses.”
