Possible spring election

2011-03-30

Queen’s University political studies professor emeritus Ned Franks is available to talk about the budget and the possible scenarios that could result in a spring election being called.

Dr. Franks, one of Canada’s leading scholars on Parliamentary issues and procedures, feels there are so many issues to juggle (the budget and the contempt of Parliament charges) it is difficult to guess exactly when an election will be called.

“The government can request the Governor General dissolve Parliament at anytime, so an election call can come at any time. There are so many alternate scenarios and issues for the opposition to wait out. The really important issue is finding the government in contempt,” says Dr. Franks.
