Pakistan expert
Houchang Hassain-Yari, Queen’s University professor of Middle Eastern Studies is available to discuss the recent turmoil in Pakistan.
“Pakistan has been in turmoil since its conception as an independent Muslim state, and is very far from having a democratic system,” says Dr. Hassain-Yari. “It’s an artificial country created on religious basis.”
He can speak to the political structure of Pakistan, as well as the role of Islamic groups in the political process and their influence over the Afghanistan situation.
Dr. Hassain-Yari also teaches Foreign and Defence Policy of Canada and International Relations. He's originally from Iran, and was formerly a guest professor at the National University in Tehran.
