Margaret Thatcher predicted Eurozone crisis: Queen's University expert

2013-04-19

Queen’s University expert Phil Giurlando can talk about Margaret Thatcher’s political battle in the 1990s to keep Britain out of the Eurozone.

Mr. Giurlando, who has done research on Britain and the Eurozone, says all of Ms. Thatcher’s warnings about keeping Britain out of the Eurozone have come true.

“One of Margaret Thatcher’s legacies is that she accurately predicted the Eurozone crisis and the current situation has vindicated her views. She warned the Euro would reduce competiveness in southern Europe and force northern Europe to transfer money for bailouts which would lead to conflicts between north and south – all of which has happened,” says Mr. Giurlando a doctoral student writing his thesis on the European Monetary Union.

Please note that on Monday, April 8, Mr. Giurlando is only available between 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
