Israeli/Palestinian conflict expert
Queen’s sociology professor Elia Zureik is an expert on the Middle East, with special focus on Israeli-Palestinian relations.
Dr. Zureik has appeared before the United Nations and Canadian Parliamentary committees to provide expert testimony on the Middle East, and presented seminars and lectures at the US Council on Foreign Relations in New York, The US Defense College in Washington D.C., the Canadian Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, and at numerous universities in Canada, the US, Britain, Norway, Israel, and Palestine.
He is the author of The Palestinians in Israel (Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1979), which was favourably reviewed in the New York Review of Books, and Palestinian Refugees and the Peace Process (Institute for Palestine Studies, 1996). He is the co-editor of Constructing Order: Palestinian Adaptations to Refugee Life (Institute for Applied Social Science, Oslo, Norway, 1997), Sociology of the Palestinians (St. Martin's Press 1980), and Public Opinion and the Palestine Question (St. Martin's Press, 1987). His articles on the Middle East have appeared in international journals including International Journal of Middle East Studies and International Journal of the Sociology of Law.
