iPhone overtakes Blackberry in Canada: Queen's University expert

Queen’s University business professor and technology expert John Pliniussen is available to comment on Research in Motion Ltd. Being ousted from top spot for smartphone shipments in its home market for the first time ever. RIM was unseated by Apple Inc.’s iPhone.

“RIM’s loss of its leadership position in Canada’s smartphone market is not surprising and was predicted by many industry watchers months ago,” says Dr. Pliniussen. “What it needs now is a powerful one-two punch with unforgettable marketing piggy-backed with exciting product innovation. How the new CEO, Thorsten Heins, handles this will provide a glimpse into his ability to deal with the misery, pain and suffering RIM and its shareholders have been experiencing.”

Dr. Pliniussen is a marketing professor who specializes in technology and business innovation and has been following the Waterloo-based company.

Please note Dr. Pliniussen is currently in Florida and only available for phone interviews.
