International adoption expert
Karen Dubinsky
Dr. Karen Dubinsky, Queen’s expert in international and interracial adoption is able to speak to issues surrounding Madonna's adoption of a 13-month-old baby boy from Africa.
Dr. Dubinsky is currently writing a book on the history and politics of international and interracial adoption entitled ‘Babies Without Borders: Adoption and the Symbolic Child in Canada, Cuba and Guatemala.’ She also teaches a course entitled ‘The Global Politics of Childhood.’ She has researched the history of interracial adoptions in Canada, and has conducted extensive field research in Guatemala to learn about international adoptions from the perspective of ‘sending’ countries.
