Harry Potter expert
Heather Evans, professor of English with an expertise in children’s literature is available to discuss the reasons for the success of the Harry Potter books.
She suggests that the books have come at a time when children have money and economic power, and they can choose to buy into trends. “I suspect Harry Potter will be remembered, but will it be remembered for anything that’s fundamental to it as a literary work? Probably not.”
Professor Evans teaches children’s literature at Queen’s University and has used the first Harry Potter book, the Philosopher’s Stone, in her classes.
