Debate continues over top Canadian Forces job
Queen’s University defence policy expert Douglas Bland is available to comment on the battle brewing for the top Canadian Forces job. Rumours are the Harper government is willing to go outside the Canadian Forces brass to recall a retired officer to replace Gen. Walter Natynczyk, whose departure is expected within weeks. The name that has surfaced is former lieutenant-general Andrew Leslie.
"I would say it's not lack of confidence in the other candidates, but they would have more confidence in Andy Leslie to carry out the reforms that - as I understand it - the prime minister was keen on," said Dr. Bland, who has written a book Chiefs of Defence: Government and the Unified Command of the Canadian Armed Forces.
