Chinese dissidents are bold in their resistance of government: Queen’s University expert
Queen’s University Asian politics expert Bruce Gilley is available to talk about Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng and his attempts to seek asylum in the United States.
Dr. Gilley is an expert on the politics of Asia and a fellow in the Centre for International and Defence Policy at Queen’s. He has consulted widely with governments in Canada, the United States, and Europe on policies toward China and its democratization.
People in China are increasingly taking bold steps in resisting the state, says, Dr. Gilley, “even in Chen’s case walking willingly into a clear arrest situation. Foreign governments will increasingly find themselves monitoring the treatment of people like Chen in China rather than seeking to grant them asylum abroad.”
Please note that Dr. Gilley is currently in Portland, Ore.
