Charlie Sheen a Twitter sensation

Queen’s University Film and Media Studies professor Sidneyeve Matrix is available to talk about actor Charlie Sheen’s status as a Twitter sensation.

The Two and a Half Men star – who has been making headlines for his bizarre behavior and interviews – has been on Twitter for only a few days and only posted a dozen Tweets, yet he already has 1.25 million followers and is gaining a thousand followers almost every minute.

“This is social media rubbernecking,” says Dr. Matrix, who is one of Canada’s leading experts on social media and digital culture. “My students are fascinated with this. They're really interested in spectacular fails. But I'm also seeing supporters coming out and saying, 'This is a complicated situation and we want to hear his side.' There's a perception that social media offers that."

To arrange an interview, please contact communication officers Michael Onesi at 613.533.6000 ext. 77513 or michael.onesi@queensu.ca or Christina Archibald at 613-533-2877 or Christina.Archibald@queensu.ca at Queen’s University News and Media Services Department in Kingston, Ont., Canada.
