Auditor general's report finds weaknesses

Queen’s University national security expert Christian Leuprecht is available to talk about the auditor general’s report that has found ‘disturbing weaknesses’ in the way Canada’s border and immigration agencies hand out visas.

"The visa system is Canada's main line of defence against people who should not be in the country," says Dr. Leuprecht. "Canada has visa requirements for good reason but they often prove difficult to enforce.  The Auditor General's assessment documents that Canada's visa system is under considerable strain: too few visa officers under pressure to process an ever-mounting caseload, supported by inadequate and untimely intelligence, uncooperative source countries providing unreliable documentation."

Dr. Leuprecht is available for television interviews starting Nov. 23 after noon.
