Randy Quaid refugee hearing

Queen’s University law professor and immigration expert Sharryn Aiken is available to discuss U.S. actor Randy Quaid’s bid to become a Canadian refugee. He is appearing at an Immigration and Refugee Board hearing today in Vancouver.

Professor Aiken, who is also the Associate Dean of the Queen’s Faculty of Law, can describe the process and requirements a person needs to become a refugee. Professor Aiken feels it is likely the actor will be deemed ineligible to pursue an asylum claim in Canada due to outstanding criminal charges in the U.S. Also, very few asylum claims are accepted from people in the U.S.
