School of Religion

Pamela Dickey Young’s position as principal of Queen’s School of Religion and head of Religious Studies is scheduled to end on June 30, 2012. Principal Daniel Woolf has appointed a selection committee to advise him on the appointment of the next director of the School of Religion. The selection committee has the following membership:

Pursuant to Articles 41.3 and 41.3.5 of the Collective Agreement between Queen’s University Faculty Association and Queen’s University at Kingston, you are invited to submit your comments on the present state and future prospects of the School of Religion by November 25, 2011. You are also asked to submit names of possible candidates for the headship.

Please send all comments to the attention of Ms Reid. All letters will be reviewed by the selection committee and will become part of the record of decision-making. At the request of either the department members or the selection committee, a meeting can be arranged between the department and the committee to ascertain department members' views on the qualities required in a head. Once a short list has been established, it will be distributed to members of the department for further input on the merits of the respective candidates.


Faculty and students required to serve on Senate committees

Committee service is a valuable way in which members of the university community participate in the governance of Queen's. Senate committees discuss issues of broad interest to the academic community, and make recommendations on policy and practice that are essential to the university's operations and evolution.

At this time the Senate Nominating Committee seeks faculty who are willing to put their names forward for committee service, for the University Promotions Committee (must be a tenured professor), the University Promotions Advisory Committee (must hold the rank of full professor) or the Information Technology Committee beginning immediately. Terms are usually for two years, with the number of meetings per year depending on the particular committee's area of responsibility. As well, students are required for the Senate Orientation Activities Review Board (SOARB) and the Queen's University Engineering Society Services Incorporated (QUESSI) and the University Council on Athletics and Recreation. Community members are urged to consider putting their name forward, either for a committee dealing with a subject that is of immediate interest or concern to you, or for a committee dealing with a subject that you know is important. Either way, committee work allows you to directly impact the way Queen's functions as a teaching and research institution, and as a community of scholars, students and staff.
