Support RecycleMania by voting for a Tricolour Love Story
Queen’s AMS, SGPS and Sustainability Office recently teamed up behind the camera to enter RecycleMania’s YouTube video contest. Participating universities were asked to create a short video demonstrating their love of recycling and support for the international effort to reduce waste at university campuses.
“The theme for the video was ‘show your love for recycling’, so as it fell on Valentine’s Day, we decided to call it Tricolour Love Story,” explains Ivana Zelenika-Zovko, SGPS Sustainability Coordinator. “Our aim was to draw attention to recycling in a fun and creative way.”
RecycleMania judges have picked Tricolour Love Story as one of the top eight videos and posted the entries to the RecycleMania Facebook page. Beginning this week, members of the public can vote for their favourite video. Simply 'Like' the Facebook page and click 'Like' under the Queen’s video. The university with the most votes by April 4 will be declared the winner.
The grand prize is $500 cash to be used for the winning university’s recycling program and to promote the 2012 RecycleMania competition on campus.
Jodi Rempel, AMS Sustainability Officer, says that this was the first time anyone at Queen’s sustainability offices had made a viral video.
“We really wanted to have a lot of fun with it,” she says. “We didn’t want an approach that is guilt-tripping or aggressive, but rather something that will genuinely capture people’s attention about how easy it is to recycle properly.”
