Queen's moves up in research ranking
Queen’s is Canada’s sixth most research-intensive university, according to the 2011 Research Infosource annual ranking.
The university moved up one spot from last year's ranking. Research intensity is defined as sponsored research per full-time faculty member.
“This particular ranking reflects the continued strength of our research programs, the excellence of our faculty, students and staff and the quality of their work,” says Principal Daniel Woolf. “Taken with other rankings and reports that focus on student experience and community, the picture emerges of Queen’s as a medium-sized university that offers quality teaching and research in a supportive learning environment.”
Queen’s remains in 11th place overall among the Top 50 research universities, based on total sponsored research income, although research income increased by 10.6 per cent to just over $197 million, gaining Queen’s the eighth position in the Top 10 universities by growth.
“Our faculty and students continue to attract funding that allows us to make significant contributions to Canadian society and advance knowledge that provides a better understanding of society, culture, and the natural and physical world,” says Steven Liss, Vice-Principal (Research). “These innovations are having an impact and improving the lives of Canadians and people around the world.”
The Globe and Mail’s University Report and Maclean’s annual University Rankings were released last week.
