Queen's Bands resume performances
The Queen’s Bands are resuming their scheduled performances having met the conditions set by the university and the AMS in November.
“The Bands executive and membership have demonstrated real leadership in working to effect positive and lasting change within the organization,” says Ann Tierney, Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs. “The university and the AMS will continue to support their ongoing efforts as they move forward.”
Over the last two months, the executive has developed and begun to implement an action plan to address concerns raised last fall. The plan includes human rights and inclusivity training for all members, alumni mentorship and supervision to support a culture change and revisions to the Bands Constitution, policies and procedures to articulate the club’s values and membership expectations.
“We look forward to having the Bands represent the spirit of the university and its students once again,” says Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Alan Harrison. “We recognize the work that has gone into fulfilling the conditions, as well as the commitment of the executive and the entire Bands membership towards fostering a culture of inclusivity.”
