Queen's appoints new Deputy Provost
Laeeque Daneshmend, a professor in the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining, has been named the new Deputy Provost. Laeeque Daneshmend will be Queen’s new Deputy Provost, replacing Susan Cole on January 1.
“Dr. Daneshmend brings to the position an impressive record of scholarly achievement and administrative experience,” says Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Alan Harrison. “I would also like to thank Dr. Cole for her service to Queen’s as Deputy Provost for the past two-and-a-half years.”
Dr. Daneshmend will support the university’s academic priorities, and the operational and budgetary responsibilities central to the provost’s role. He will also assume a leadership role in operationalizing recommendations from the Principal’s Commission on Mental Health that are within the purview of the Provost’s Office.
Dr. Daneshmend has held the Noranda-Falconbridge Chair in Mine-Mechanical Engineering since joining the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining in 1995. For the past five years he has served as head of the department. Dr. Daneshmend is also cross appointed to the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and affiliated with the Cultural Studies program.
