Principal recognized for tweets
Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf’s tweets have been singled out by an American youth leadership organization.
Dr. Woolf has been named Educator of the Week by Lead America. Lead America’s Twitter-based announcement says “Educator of the week: @QueensPrincipal, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University AND active Tweeter.”
He was nominated by Film and Media professor Sidney Eve Matrix, who is a leading expert in social media and society.
“Education tech leaders are few and far between and this is recognition for his continued investment in the channel. He's truly out in front,” says Professor Matrix.
“He's being recognized as an innovator and early adopter willing to take a chance on social media communication channels to increase his accessibility and the transparency of his office for various publics including students, parents, employees at Queens, and alumni around the world. His success in this initiative will be imitated by other educational leaders.”
Principal Woolf has been using Twitter since he arrived on campus last fall to give people a window into the life of a university principal and what’s happening at Queen’s.
He currently has 700 followers, and the number has been steadily growing.
“I like the twitter framework-140 characters forces you to be concise,” says the Principal. “And it means I can tweet frequently, between meetings. I've had some great conversations via twitter and even made a few new e-friends.”
