Payette brings Barber's record to space

Astronaut and former Queen’s University Trustee Julie Payette will be taking a selection of Canadian albums - including Chances, the most recent release from alumna Jill Barber - on her mission to the International Space station, now scheduled for July.

Barber got the news that her record would play in space via an email from the Canadian Space Agency.

It said that Julie is a big fan, and wants to throw her support behind Canadian independent music and would love to get [a hold] of this record to take up with her on this mission as part of her personal satchel of Canadian artifacts... I was thrilled,” Barber says.

Chances has also made the long list for the prestigious Polaris Prize. The short list will be announced on July 7.
