Last year, it was a chaplain and a doctor. This year, you can have a say in who receives Queen’s Distinguished Service Awards.

“Distinguished Service Award recipients come from different backgrounds, but they share the bond of making the university a better place through their extraordinary contributions,” says Principal Daniel Woolf.

Brian Yealland and Andrew Pipe accepted the honours last year – the highest for exemplary service to the university. Mr. Yealland was honoured for his compassion and understanding as the University Chaplain over the last 27 years. Dr. Pipe was recognized for championing the Queen’s Centre project and his service as a Board of Trustee member for the last 15 years.

“There are so many Queen’s community members who deserve this award,” says University Secretary Georgina Moore. “The nomination process is straightforward and I would encourage as many nominations as possible.”

This year’s nomination period is now open and everyone can participate. Alumni and members of University Council, which includes members of Senate and Board of Trustees, directly nominate candidates. Other university community members can suggest nominees to a University Council representative. Membership lists are posted on the University Secretariat website under the Senate, Board and University Council categories.

The deadline for nominations is February 4. Complete guidelines and nomination forms are online.

The University Council executive committee reviews the nominations and selects recipients in March. The honourees will receive the award at the annual meeting and dinner of the University Council in May.
