Queen’s has launched a new biannual research magazine highlighting the passion and dedication of Queen’s scholars and researchers, whose important discoveries and innovative research make an impact around the world.

(e)AFFECT is the first magazine of its kind at Queen’s and aims to bring the complex world of academic research, and its importance, to a wider audience.

“Queen’s research is innovative and cutting-edge. We hope to capture, with (e)AFFECT, the enthusiasm and excitement that comes naturally with the process of discovery and intellectual engagement,” says Steven Liss, Vice-Principal (Research). “We want to demonstrate the impact the diverse work of our scholars, researchers, students, both undergraduate and graduate, and post-doctoral fellows is having on the world.”

(e)AFFECT is part of the vice-principal’s efforts to enhance internal and external communications as outlined in the draft Strategic Research Plan. The draft plan will go to Senate on May 22 for approval.

The first issue, Spring 2012, focuses on the theme of Exploring Human Dimensions, looking at society, culture, human behaviour and the enhancement of human health and wellness through profiles of several researchers. The main story features psychology professor Wendy Craig and her work as scientific co-director of PREVNet, a Canada-wide research network whose goal is to eliminate bullying.

(e)AFFECT is being distributed widely, to alumni, faculty, students and staff, and other universities and organizations. A PDF version is available on the Office of the Vice-Principal, Research, website.

The magazine was unveiled Tuesday, May 8 at the Celebration of Research Excellence, an annual event held to recognize the successes of Queen’s researchers and scholars.
