New contest encourages healthy living during exam crunch
Queen’sU Be Well is challenging students to keep their health and well-being on their radar this exam period.
“During this time of year, stress levels are often at an all-time high and personal well-being can become a lower priority for students,” says Beth Doxsee, Peer Health Outreach Coordinator, Health Counselling and Disability Services. “However, we know that when students engage in healthy behaviours it helps enhance academic success.”
The inaugural 15 Days of Exams Health Challenges gives students an extra incentive to eat well, exercise, and get a good night’s sleep during the exam period. A new challenge along with a question will appear on the Queen’sU Be Well Facebook page for each of the next 15 days. Participants can complete the challenge and answer the question for a daily chance to win gift cards to local businesses. Students earn additional ballots by getting their friends to visit the Facebook page.
“We hope that by doing these simple daily health challenges, students will also become more aware of the many services and resources that exist at Queen’s,” adds Ms Doxsee.
As students cope with exam pressure, many Queen’s staff, faculty and community members are experiencing stress brought on by the holiday season. That’s why the health challenge is open to everyone. Only students can win the prizes, but everyone benefits by putting personal health near the top of their priority list.
Students are filling up study spaces across campus as exams begin today. The following spaces are available in Queen’s libraries:
• Stauffer Library: 1,386
• Douglas Library: 823
• Law Library: 335
• Bracken Health Sciences Library: 302
• Education Library: 186
There are also study areas in the John Deutsch University Centre and the Queen’s Centre.
