New AV-P and Dean of Student Affairs

John Pierce is the interim Associate Vice-Principal and Dean of Student Affairs for one year beginning August 1.

He will manage the student affairs portfolio including university residences, career services, hospitality services, and health counseling and disability services. He will also work collaboratively with the Alma Mater Society, the Society of Graduate and Professional Students, faculty student governments, clubs, and organizations to assist them in advancing the programs and services they provide to members of the Queen’s community.

“It truly is an honour to work closely with student leaders and the talented and dedicated Student Affairs staff,” says Dr. Pierce. “Working together I am confident we can build on our strong record of supporting the academic mission of the university and enhancing the learning experience outside of the classroom.”

Dr. Pierce is replacing Jason Laker who will be leaving Queen’s to assume the role of Vice-President for Student Affairs at San Jose State University.

“I want to thank Dr. Pierce for taking on this important role,” said Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Bob Silverman. “Engaging our students in all aspects of the university is what makes Queen’s remarkable and I know he is dedicated to supporting them.”

Dr. Pierce has been the Associate Dean (Studies) in the Faculty of Arts and Science since 2000. He has worked closely with students, advising them on academic matters and guiding them toward successful completion of their degrees.

The search process to appoint a permanent associate vice-principal and dean of student affairs will begin in the near future.
