Milliken gift to Obama: book by Queen's Fellow
2009-02-20

When Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House and M.P. for Kingston and the Islands, met President Barack Obama in Ottawa, he handed over a thoughtful gift. It's a book called ‘In Roosevelt's Bright Shadow', edited by Arthur Milnes, fellow with the Centre for the Study of Democracy at Queen's. The book presents addresses made to Canadian Parliament by many US presidents, beginning with Roosevelt, to whom Obama has often been compared, thanks to the troubled economy.
“I'm looking forward to reading it,” President Obama said.
The book was published by the McGill-Queen's University Press in January of this year, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Roosevelt's 1938 speech and visit to Queen's.
