Memorial for victims of Polish tragedy

Queen’s is hosting a public memorial event this week to honour the victims of the recent plane crash in Russia that killed the president of Poland and 94 others.

“On behalf of the Queen’s community, we extend our condolences to those affected by this tragedy,” said Principal Daniel Woolf.
The plane was on its way to a service marking the 70th anniversary of the Katyn Forest Massacre, in which more than 20,000 Polish nationals were murdered by Russian agents.
A brief service will be followed by a screening of the movie Katyn, which recounts the massacre and was nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign-language film in 2008. The event is being held Thursday, April 15 at 6:30 pm, in the auditorium of the University’s Biosciences building on Arch Street.
Visitors may also sign a book of condolences that will be forwarded to the Polish Embassy.
