Math and stats mini conference
To commemorate the 90th birthday of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics former Head John Coleman, the department will be hosting a mini-conference. The festivities will take place on Tuesday, May 20 and will begin at 10 am in Jeffery 234.
Professor Coleman was head of the department at Queen's for the period 1960-1980 and holds the title of Emeritus Professor since 1983. He has served as a member of the Science Council of Canada, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and was also involved in the World Student Christian Federation. This mini-conference is being organized by Bob Erdahl of the department, who will also be speaking. Experts from the University of Chicago and Tufts University will also be presenting.
Professor Coleman will deliver a talk on Whitehead's theories of general relativity and how they relate to Einstein's theory of general relativity. Refreshments will be served in the fifth-floor lounge where friends of Professor Coleman are invited to participate.
