June 9 physiology symposium in memory of Luis Melo


World-class cardiologists and cardiovascular researchers from Harvard, Duke, and Northwestern universities will speak at a June 9 symposium to be held in memory of Luis Melo.

Dr. Melo was an associate professor in the Department of Physiology, who passed away tragically last fall from pancreatic cancer.

Advance registration at the inaugural Luis Melo Memorial Symposium in Molecular Cardiology, which takes place at the Donald Gordon Conference Centre, is required. To register, contact Catherine Brewster, program assistant, Cardiac, Circulatory and Respiratory Research Program  brewstc@queensu.ca

At about 9:15 am, Ruben Melo will talk about his brother's life. Faculty of Health Sciences Dean David Walker and Associate Dean Roger Deeley will speak briefly at about 9:30 am. The keynote address by Victor J. Dzau, Chancellor of Health Affairs, President and CEO of the Duke University Health System, Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina, will follow. At about 10:30 am, Dr. Melo's widow, Amelia Melo and Ruben Melo, will make a presentation to Dr. Dzau.
