V-P (Human Resources) Rod Morrison is retiring effective August 31.

Mr. Morrison came to Queen’s in 2005. His many accomplishments include several new staff learning initiatives, and Queen’s being named one of Canada’s Top 100 employers for 2010. He has provided executive leadership to the HR module of QUASR and represented Queen’s on the provincial HR council, most recently serving as its president.

“I wish to thank Rod for his hard work on these and other matters and to wish him well,” says Principal Daniel Woolf. “He’s made many contributions to Queen’s.”

V-P (Finance and Administration) Caroline Davis will serve as Acting V-P (Human Resources) and will conduct a review of the role and structure of HR services at Queen’s. While this occurs, Allen Orth will be joining the university on a consulting basis in the interim position of Acting Associate V-P (Human Resources).

Mr. Orth is a career HR professional with experience at many public and private sector organizations, including universities.

He will assume responsibility for day-to-day matters within the portfolio, and will provide advice as to its future configuration. He will report to Ms Davis on operating matters and to Provost Bob Silverman and Principal Woolf on strategic and organizational matters.

“Mr. Orth is already a member of the extended Queen’s family; his son is a graduate of both our Law and Master of Industrial Relations program,” says Principal Woolf. “I am pleased he will be joining us to provide his expertise and leadership.”
