Human Resources now administering UHIP plan for visitors
The Human Resources department is now administering the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) for visitors to the university, including faculty visitors and post-doctoral fellows. Human Resources continues to administer UHIP for faculty and staff who are returning to Canada after a prolonged stay abroad.
The Queen’s University International Centre will keep administering the UHIP plan for students.
“Queen’s faculty members are required to provide health insurance information to their invited guests as they prepare to visit the university,” says Don Cowin, Director, Human Resources Information Systems. “Human Resources staff can assist faculty members by clarifying the requirements and processing enrolment requests.”
Visitors and their dependents (defined as spouse and children) must buy health insurance coverage through the UHIP plan if they are associated with Queen’s in an educational or staffing function. Guests attending seminars must enrol in UHIP if they are staying three weeks or longer.
Returning or newly-appointed Queen’s faculty or staff members who are waiting to become eligible for Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) coverage must also enrol in UHIP.
To enrol in UHIP, call Human Resources at (613) 533-2070 to make an appointment or go to the Human Resources department located on the first floor of Fleming Hall, Stewart-Pollock Wing.
The Queen’s international visitors website offers helpful resources for faculty members or departments that are planning to host an international visitor. The website provides information about the requirements to enter Canada, housing in Kingston and on-campus services. Faculty members can also access sample letters of invitation through the website.
