Flags lowered for Professor Depew

Flags on campus are lowered and will remain lowered until Wednesday in memory of Mary Catherine Depew.

Professor Depew grew up in Dartmouth and Ottawa before moving to Kingston where she attended Queen’s and earned a PhD in organic chemistry. After spending two years in Los Angeles doing post-doctoral work, Professor Depew and her husband Dr. William Depew returned to Queen’s and accepted academic jobs. She excelled as a chemist, producing numerous publications and several patents and serving as an editor for a respected chemistry journal.

Friends will be received at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, on Monday, January 24 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and also one hour prior to the service at the church. A celebration of Professor Depew’s life will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 10 Union Street, on Tuesday, January 25 at 11 am with a reception to follow at James Reid Funeral Home Reception Centre. Donations to Breast Cancer Action Kingston, the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation or your cause of choice are welcome in lieu of flowers.
