Flags lowered for former French professor


Flags on campus remain lowered for Patricia Soberman.

Professor Soberman completed her French and Education degrees at the University of London, England. She married Daniel Soberman, co-founder of Queen’s Faculty of Law in 1957 and its dean from 1967 to 1977, in 1958 and moved to Kingston. In 1963 she obtained her master of arts in French with first class honours from Queen’s University. Professor Soberman taught at Queen’s for 40 years where she was widely praised for her enthusiasm, dedication to her students and her love of languages.

A service for family and friends to celebrate Professor Soberman’s life will be held at James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard) on Wednesday, August 24 at 2 pm with Rev. Brian Yealland officiating. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations can be made in Professor Soberman’s name to either the Canadian Cancer Society or to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.
