Earthquake felt on campus

Faculty, staff and students were shaken by a 5.5-magnitude earthquake that appears to have been centred in Quebec, north of Ottawa on Wednesday afternoon.

Tremors were felt all the way to Toronto and in several US states.

Campus security director David Patterson says there are no signs of any damage at Queen’s.

“We’ve patrolled main and west campus and there have been no reports made to Campus Security or fixit in Physical Plant Services of any on-campus damage,” says Mr. Patterson.

Queen's news and media services was contacted immediately by several reporters looking for an expert to shed light on this rare event. Geology professor and earthquake expert Laurent Godin is providing his analysis to international, national, provincial and regional media outlets.
