Campus community invited to preview of Initiative Campaign

Principal Daniel Woolf invites members of the Queen’s community to participate in the campus launch of the Initiative Campaign on Thursday, September 27. The goal of the Initiative Campaign is to raise Queen’s profile nationally and internationally, and to raise at least half a billion dollars and a further $100 million from estate planning gifts by 2016.

“The campus launch is an opportunity for faculty, staff, students and retirees to come together and actively participate in launching our fundraising campaign. I want to share our plans first with those closest to the university,” says Principal Woolf. “I cannot emphasize enough the importance of this campaign in shaping our future. Beyond the money, this campaign is about telling our story nationally and internationally. And it’s about investing in the people of Queen’s who – like the generations before them – will not waver in their pursuit of excellence. Our campaign will help unleash the potential of our thinkers and doers.”

The Initiative Campaign will directly impact our teaching and research environment and our students’ learning experiences by funding programs, professorships, chairs, facilities, student assistance and other initiatives across the university. These advances will help ensure Queen’s continues to be a destination for exceptional people – this is one of four campaign themes that the Principal will touch on at the launch.

The Initiative Campaign will launch officially on Saturday, September 29, but the campus community will get a sneak peak two days earlier at a general assembly in Grant Hall. A light lunch will be served.

To put us all in the spirit for this celebration everyone is encouraged to wear their Queen’s gear on Tricolour Thursday, September 27, and enjoy a free Tim Hortons coffee courtesy of Queen’s Hospitality Services.

A campaign advertising and poster promotion highlighting Queen’s identity and spirit will feature faculty members and other key students and alumni. Watch for banners along University Avenue in the coming days and advertisements in the Globe and Mail.
