New volunteer opportunities directory
Getting involved as a Queen’s alumni volunteer will be a little easier, thanks to a new online resource coming in April.
The Volunteer Opportunities Directory is designed to promote volunteer opportunities to alumni, recruit volunteers, and support the tracking and recognition of volunteers. It will be a one-stop shop for both volunteers and volunteer managers.
The new directory will be a great starting point for anyone who wants to give back to Queen’s but isn’t sure how to get involved. A volunteer job board will list opportunities currently available through Queen’s. An online interest form will collect interests and skills for future volunteer opportunities.
The directory will also be geared to experienced volunteer leaders, such as alumni Branch Executives, Reunion Coordinators, and anyone who works with a volunteer team. The directory includes training materials on topics such as recruitment, recognition, and succession planning. Volunteer managers will also be able to better identify volunteer candidates from an applicant pool to find people to serve on committees or help organize events.
Whether it is helping as part of an alumni volunteer team planning an event, or serving as a member of a Queen’s strategic council, volunteering allows alumni to strengthen transferable skills, meet new people, and expand professional networks.
The Volunteer Opportunities Directory will be housed on the Queen’s Alumni website and will be launched at the Alumni Volunteer Summit at Queen’s on the April 5 weekend.
