Why study Linguistics?

Linguistics is the study of Language. Language accompanies almost all human activities, and is the medium for many of them. The understanding on how language works will help in the learning and teaching of languages. That is why many students take their linguistics course because they have studied one or more languages other and they find that they are intrigued by the languages themselves.

For those reasons the linguistics is useful in a variety of careers including:

  • computer, information and telecommunications
  • language teaching
  • speech pathologists or audiologists, working to overcome problems with language
  • translation and interpreting
