MyQueensU Upgrade

 

Note: The new version of MyQueensU will go live on August 19, 2013. The version linked below as a beta will no longer be available as of 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, to prepare for the go-live the following day.


The MyQueensU portal is your doorway to Queen's, letting you log in to one application to access content from multiple sites. It’s like one-stop shopping for your entire life at Queen’s, whether you’re faculty, staff, or student. Furthermore, each person’s experience of MyQueensU is unique because the apps they have access to is based on their role at Queen's, and every user has the option to tailor the site according to their needs and preferences.

 

On August 19, 2013, ITServices will be releasing a new version of MyQueensU that will provide an improved user experience and be optimized for mobile devices.

 

Based on both industry trends and informal feedback gathered from current users, we've taken a "less is more" approach to designing the new version, and shifted our focus away from traditional web portal design to a more targeted, role-based dashboard. Our goal is to deliver only the content that you want to see.

 

Beta Version

 

This shift in focus has resulted in significant changes to the user interface. We therefore want to give the Queen's community a sneak peek of what's to come, and so we are offering a beta version of the updated MyQueensU so you can preview the coming changes before they go into full production. The beta version is available now, and can be found at: my.beta.queensu.ca.

 

Please note the following about the beta version:

 

  • you will need to authenticate (log in) a second time to access any of the PeopleSoft functionality, including SOLUS. This will not be the case once the new version goes into full production in June;
  • it may experience unplanned service outages; and
  • it will undergo more changes to the look and feel.

Comparing Versions

 

What's New

 

New look The updated MyQueensU features an updated, simpler "look and feel".
Responsive theme This version will adapt to the size of device you are using, with different looks ("themes") for full-sized monitors, laptops/tablets, and smart phones.

 

What's Changing

 

Palette page The Palette page is known as the Dashboard in the new MyQueensU. It is a one-page view of everything you have access to based on your role (i.e. student, faculty, staff, researcher).
Research Accounts portlet This portlet will look a little different, but the functionality will remain unchanged.
Microsoft Office Distribution portlet This portlet has been renamed "Software Distribution".
Events Calendar The content is now being displayed in RSS format instead of calendar format, and is now called "Campus Events This Week".

 

What's Going Away

 

Home page The home page is going away! The updated MyQueensU offers a one-page view of everything you need. This page is called the Dashboard.
My Notepad Users should copy to another location any My Notepad content they wish to keep.
My Bookmarks Users should copy to another location any My Bookmarks links they wish to keep.
Custom RSS feeds
Users should recreate any custom RSS feeds they have built in MyQueensU using another tool.
