ITServices has gathered a listing of frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not found on the list, please fill out the Online Support Form or call us at 613 533 6666.
Please contact the ITServices General Office at 613.533.2244 or by email (at g13-l@lists.queensu.ca) to confirm your license renewal has been processed. Note: if your PC is running a 64 bit operating system you will need to request a license for the 64 bit version of the software - but this will run on Vista or Windows 7 only - not XP. Please specify 64-bit Vista or 64 bit Windows 7 on the renewal application. If you are not sure whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit, look at the System settings (Control Panel > System). If your system is 64 bit
Ida now offers a tweak to just run the licensing step of the SPSS install. It is restricted so you will have to request access to it before you can run it. Contact the ITServices General Office at 613.533.2244 or by email (at g13-l@lists.queensu.ca) to get access to the tweak. Note that there are 2 tweaks to license SPSS - the upper one in the list at Tweaks > Add is for last year's version - version 20 - and the lower one is for version 21. Make sure you pick the one for your version. If the License tweak doesn't work it may be that your internet connection is blocking the license wizard's access to the SPSS server. If the wizard didn't work, it will recommend trying the e-mail method in The Internet Authorization Status window.
In order to provide access to .spo files SPSS has an application called the "Legacy Viewer," which is the SPSS 15.0 SmartViewer with the licensing stripped off. If you wish to view and edit output created in the versions of SPSS that created .spo files, please install the Legacy Viewer and open the older output using that application. Legacy Viewer is on the installation CD and also available from Ida.

This problem should be fixed by running the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable which is included with the install at C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\21\VC9\Vcredist_x86.exe (32 bit) or C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\21\VC9\Vcredist_x64.exe (64 bit)
