Upgrading EndNote

We recommend backing up data and uninstalling previous versions of EndNote before installing a new version. Instructions for backing up can be found at EndNote Training

EndNote Library Safety

  • EndNote libraries should be kept on the computer's hard drive. Storing and editing libraries on a network drive can lead to corruption and performance issues.
  • If needed for sharing purposes, a copy of an EndNote library can be placed in a read-only folder on a network drive for multiple users to access. The original library should remain on the owner's computer.
  • EndNote libraries should never be stored in cloud-syncing folders such as DropBox, OneDrive, SugarSync, etc. Syncing folders corrupt EndNote libraries over time.
  • EndNote libraries cannot be stored in SharePoint.

Create an Online Account

Register your free EndNote account online to network with fellow EndNote users. Connect with the EndNote community to ask questions and get the latest tips and tricks and product updates. By creating an EndNote account (under preferences > Sync), you can sync your library across multiple computers as well as access it through EndNote online and the iPad app.

NOTE: An EndNote account is not required to use the software.
