The current version of QShare (6.0) will be upgraded this month to QShare 7.2. This upgrade is planned for Sunday, June 26, and will primarily affect those who access QShare using the web interface. If you would like a sneak peak at what the upgraded QShare will look like, you may 1) come to our QShare 7.2 Demo Session, and 2) check out the QShare 7.2 test environment.
ITServices is hosting a preview and demonstration of QShare 7.2 this Thursday, June 16th , from 10:00-11:00 am in the Mackintosh-Corry B176 Lecture Theatre. Everyone is welcome; no registration required.
You can access the QShare 7.2 test environment by navigating to http://qsharetest.queensu.ca and logging in with your NetID and password. (Note: When you go to this web address, you may get a message from your web browser indicating that there is an issue with the security certificate. This is because you are logging in to a non-production environment, and is not a cause for concern.)
One of the changes being implemented with this upgrade is that QShare is becoming a Single Sign-On (SSO) service. This means that the new QShare login screen will look different from the current one. It also means that when you log in to QShare 7.2, you will also be logging in to other SSO’d applications such as Queen’s Webmail and the MyQueensU portal. For more information about the impacts of SSO, please visit the webpage on Single Sign-On Implications for End Users.
Please bear in mind the following when exploring the test environment:
In addition to becoming an SSO service, QShare 7.2 offers enhanced search functionality. In the current QShare, you can do name searches for files and folders and content searches within .txt and .html files. In QShare 7.2, the search functionality has been enhanced such that the content of all files can be searched.
ITServices has prepared a video called Welcome to QShare 7.2 to orient users to the look and feel of the new QShare. You are encouraged to view this video to help familiarize yourself with the new web interface. In addition, online tutorials for QShare 7.2 will be available at the time of go-live.
If you have any questions about the test environment, please fill out this online help form: http://www.queensu.ca/its/apps/forms/qshare/.
