Conficker C Computer Worm Expected to Launch April Fool's Day

 

As you may have heard in recent media reports, there is concern about the Conficker C computer worm expected to launch on April 1. It is estimated that the worm has already infected as many as 5 to 10 million computers world wide, and it is believed that on April 1, all infected computers will come under the control of a master machine located somewhere across the web.

 

There are several precautions that every computer user can take to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of Conficker and other viruses:

  • make sure your virus definitions are up to date;
  • run a Windows update and do a full system scan; and
  • make sure all your critical files are backed up.
